چکیده

A two-phase anaerobic digestion process of synthetic domestic wastewater was studied at ambient temperature in mild to cold climates. The hydrolytic stage was carried out in a continuous stirred tank reactor with an effective volume of 1.2 L. The hydrolytic reactor operated at hydraulic retention times (HRTs) in the range of 1.3 to 2.7 h, which allowed for optimum HRT to be obtained in order to achieve a maximum amount of soluble COD. For the methanogenic stage, an up-flow anaerobic filter with a volume of 1.35 L and corrugated * Address correspondence to R. Borja, Instituto de la Grasa (C.S.I.C.), Avda. Coupled Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR)/Activated Sludge Treatment of Synthetic Wastewater with High Concentration of Sulfate and COD

A synthetic wastewater with high concentration of sulfate and COD was treated in anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) coupled with an activated sludge. The work was accomplished in two phases. In the first phase, the concentration of sulfate was kept constant at 500mg/l, but COD concentration was increased from (3000mg/l to 6000mg/l), consequently, COD and sulfate removal in ABR reached to 80% and 9...

Evaluation of pre-treatment efficiency of fats, oils and greases using low frequency ultrasonic waves to accelerate the process of anaerobic digestion

Background and Objective: Hydrolysis of fat, oil and grease by ultrasonic waves is a pre-treatment method before anaerobic digestion which can change their physical, chemical and biological properties. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the efficiency of ultrasonic waves to improve the hydrolysis process and its use as an auxiliary substrate to increase the efficiency of anaerobi...

Explicit temperature-based model for anaerobic digestion: application in domestic wastewater treatment in a UASB reactor.

Temperature is an important environmental variable that can strongly affect the performance of anaerobic reactors working at ambient temperatures. This study presents a mechanistic mathematical model which depends in an explicit way on the operating temperature. The cardinal temperature model function is proposed to describe the temperature dependence of the kinetic parameters and the experimen...

Modeling the Two-stage Anaerobic Digestion of Domestic Wastewater with the Development of a Monitoring Application

The IWA Anaerobic Digestion Model No. 1 (ADM1) was chosen to simulate a two-stage anaerobic digestion lab-scale plant treating domestic wastewater. Initially, the model was preliminary tested using synthetic wastewater. The simulation results were satisfactorily compared to NH4 and chemical oxygen demand (COD) data for the first and second stages, respectively. A transformation method was then ...
